10 magnificent images of Railways’ Vistadome glass roofed coaches
The first Vistadome coach was introduced by the Centrail Railway on the Mumbai-Goa route on September 18. It has a glass roof, rotating chairs and LCD television. It is a first-of-its-kind coach with a glass top in the Indian Railways.
The Vistadome coach was attached to the Jan Shatabdi Express running between Dadar and Madgaon
This Rs 3.38 crore coach was received by the railways at its headquarters, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, in the first week of September.
The coach has wide windowpanes and a roof that turns transparent with a button. Amusingly, the passengers were able to witness the ephemeral vicinity of the Western Ghats. The comfort zone also included the coach rotation of 360 degrees with pushback facility. The entertainment needs were satiated by 12 LCD television screens for entertainment, a mini fridge, automatic sliding compartment doors, an oven, juicer grinder and toilets fitted with ceramic tiles.
In a Vistadome coach there are 40 seats and a single ticket costs Rs 2,235. There is no concession and all passengers are charged at full fare. Minimum chargeable distance is 50km
The train runs three times a week during the monsoon period and five days a week once the monsoon gets over.
