Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan raised a very salient point on a placard which he posted on his Twitter account. The placard reads “When I die, the assets that I shall leave behind, shall be shared equally between my daughter and the son”.

We wholeheartedly endorse this message.
Both daughters and sons have equal rights over parental property and there shouldn’t be any discrimination in inheritance. Unfortunately, despite law to ensure that women get equal rights in the society, women still fighting for justice.
This discriminatory attitude would only end with more and more fathers will come forward and speak openly about equal rights to women. We also need to educate women that they are legally empowered and should become more assertive and proactive for their property rights. Assertion and legal awareness are the only ways to break this male centric impunity of denial of property rights to women.
