In a bid to make air travel accessible to a larger stratum of society and improve regional air connectivity, prime minister Narendra Modi will launch ‘UDAN’ scheme on 27 April 2017. The low-cost flight scheme will put a cap of Rs 2,500 on flights shorter than 1 hours.
“Airfare for a 1-hour journey of approximately 500 kilometers on a fixed wing aircraft or for a 30-minute journey on a helicopter would be capped at Rs 2,500,” the PMO said.
The one of a kind scheme in the world will be launched by PM from Shimla. UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) will enhance regional connectivity through a market-based mechanism.
