Argentina has called off their World Cup warm-up match with Israel. The friendly match was slated to happen on Saturday in Jerusalem. The sold-out match was being strongly opposed by Palestinian officials and global groups due to repeated attacks by Israel.

Reportedly Lionel Messi refused to play the match stating: ‘a human before a footballer’. And has also committed to pay all the losses incurred due to the cancellation of the match.

Argentine player Gonzalo Higuaín told ESPN “they’ve finally done the right thing. Rationale and health come before everything else. We think it’s best not go to Israel.”

People from all quarters are hailing the decision of Argentina and Messi to cancel the match.
