Army men to clear tourists places and collect garbage?
Keeping in mind the cleanliness issue, the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) has asked the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to ensure that the waste left behind at tourist places must be removed. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that many of these high-altitude locations are not reachable by tourists but still some tourists manage to get there.
However, because of prevailing conditions the junk left behind at these locations never decomposes.
“One of the objectives of the Swachhta Abhiyan for us would be to go to those high-altitude positions and clean them”, she added.
Every year, a large number of tourists visit places like Kargil and Ladakh. However, at many remote locations there is a negligible presence of civilian administration and only Indian Army is present in large numbers, she said.
