“Bikini Hiker” freezes to death after falling down a ravine in Taiwan national park

Gigu Wu, known as “Bikini Hiker” for hiking in only a bikini has frozen to death after falling in a ravine in Taiwan’s national park. Aged 36, the hiker, known for documenting her bikini-clad hiking adventures on social media had gone for a solo hike through the Yushan National Park. A week after she left, she made a distress call to a friend, informing him that she had fallen down a ravine.
A slew of Black Hawk helicopters was called in for the rescue operations, but owing to poor weather conditions, they could not touch down. 28 hours later, Wu, was found frozen to death. She had fallen in a 65ft deep gorge while she was trying to climb on to Taiwan’s highest peak. Unable to move due to the injuries sustained, she was trapped in the bottom, waiting for help to be rescued.
The National Airborne Service Corps tasked with handling such emergencies said they had attempted to send Black Hawk helicopters for her rescue at three different occasions but the hostile weather conditions meant that the flights couldn’t reach her. Finally, two search and rescue teams comprising of three members each were sent in to save her. The found Wu’s body at the location. Rescuers are waiting for the weather conditions to stabilize to airlift her dead body from the narrow gorge.
Gigi Wu had a huge social media following which religiously followed her bikini adventures on adventure trips to the most daring hiking destinations. She was known to climb on some of Taiwan’s highest peaks.
