A new scheme has been started in Delhi Metro which will put a smile on the face of book lovers. The project called ‘Books on Delhi Metro’ has been started by a Delhi couple. This is a nonprofit initiative by Shruti Sharma, a writer, and Tarun Chauhan, a civil engineer.
The books are dropped on the metro with the sticker ‘Books on Delhi Metro’ and clues about the location are given on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. People who pick up the book are expected to run the hashtag #booksondelhimetro, and keep the book in their metro after they finish reading.
This couple took the idea from actress Emma Watson who dropped feminist books on the New York City Subway and London Underground. After some more online search, Shruti Sharma came to know that Emma Watson collaborated with Books on the Move. Books on the Move started as a mobile library in London and now has 20 branches in 14 countries.
The couple plans to drop one book every week and also plan to encourage book lovers to actively participate and drop books for commuters to read. So far they are using books from their personal collection, but they will soon come up with a book donation drive also.
