Piyush Goyal deletes tweet after being pointed out that the image of “Illuminated roads” is of Russia
Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted a pic highlighting the government’s achievement of illuminating 50,000 Kms of Indian roads with LEDs.
Just that the picture the minister used was of Russia.

SM Hoax Slayer, a site that debunks fake news, pointed to the minister that the photo is of Russia. The minister then deleted the tweet and thanked social media for illuminating facts.

This is not for the first time that a government ministry has used misleading or fake photographs and many Twitter users pointed towards the same.
He tweeted “Thanks to many who pointed issues with the earlier image. While we illuminate streets, social media helps illuminate facts, helping us improve.”
