Smelling agarbatti smoke could be more dangerous than smoking cigarettes
Agarbatti is an inseparable part of every Hindu prayer. A puja never starts or gets complete without lighting up few agarbattis. While the refreshing aroma of agarbatti smoke makes the surroundings sacrosanct it might also be making you sick. In fact, as per a Chinese research, burning incense sticks could be more harmful than cigarettes and could cause cancer.
Researchers in the South China University of Technology found that incense smoke contains three kinds of toxins including mutagenic, genotoxic, and cytotoxic. These toxins are capable of making genetic mutations and changes in cells’ DNA which could eventually lead to cancer.
Apart from being a potential reason for cancer, incense smoke once inhaled gets trapped in the lungs and causes chest inflammation.
