A young Saudi woman created online furore by posting a video of herself on Snapchat, wearing a miniskirt and walking around in public. There are calls for her arrest in the conservative kingdom, while some are defending her. The woman violated the strict dress code of Saudi Arabia where it is compulsory for women to wear a loose fitting abaya and cover their hairs and faces as well. Only foreign dignitaries are exempt from covering their faces.
The video shows the woman walking in an empty historic fort of Ushaigar, a village north of the capital Riyadh. There were hashtags on Twitter, both in her support and against her.

Hindustan Times quoted Ibrahim al-Munayif, a Saudi writer who has 41,000 followers on Twitter, as saying “Just like we call on people to respect the laws of countries they travel to, people must also respect the laws of this country.”
Social media is highly popular in Saudi Arabia, as it is one of the few outlets where people share information. More than half of the population of Saudi Arabia is under 25-years-age. In order to appease the restless young demography, new entertainment avenues have been provided by the monarch but gender segregation is very strictly enforced.
