These days people like to remain hooked to their electronic gadgets and smartphones all the time; while eating dinner, conversing with a friend, or even while crossing the roads. But staring at the screen of your smartphone or any other gadget while crossing the road will put you in legal trouble in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii.

A new law passed recently in the capital of the island state of Hawaii makes it illegal to cross the roads while looking at the screens of electronic devices. The law has been passed to prevent pedestrians from getting hit by cars.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said “Sometimes I wish there were laws we did not have to pass, that perhaps common sense would prevail”

First-time offenders will be fined between $ 15 and $ 35, while repeat offenders will be fined between $ 75 and $ 99. However, interestingly, talking on the cell phone while crossing the road is not illegal.
