Training to be given to hotels on how to spot sex trafficking
In order to control cases of sex trafficking, hotels in Mumbai and other cities will start giving training to their staff and will educate them on how to spot signs of sex trafficking. Many a time it happens that there are frequent requests for bed linen changes or there is “Do Not Disturb” sign left on the door for days.
People who are taking this initiative will also develop an app named Rescue me which will help hotel staff to alert local police and senior anti-trafficking officers in case they find any suspicious behaviour.
Sanee Awsarmmel, Chairman of the alumni group of Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology said that hotels are breeding grounds for human trade and they have hospitality professionals working in hotels across the country. They are committed to this cause. At present, hotels have an important role to play in ending modern day slavery. The initiative, which has been supported by Maharashtra government, comes at this time. In Maharashtra, girls are often enticed by the promise of jobs. It is a key destination for trafficked girls who are sold into the sex trade or domestic slavery.

Reportedly, hotels will be told about 50 songs that staff requires to observe. It will also include requests for rooms with a view of the car park. The hotel staff said that they often see odd behaviours of girls where at times they are silent or is dependent on the person escorting her to talk. But in most of the cases, these signs are ignored by the staff or they are clueless about what to do. The new Rescue Me app will have a feature to send an alert to the police.
