Two men married each other to please rain god
Recently in a bizarre manner, two men in Madhya Pradesh married each other in order to appease rain gods. Several districts of the state are reported to have a rainfall deficit and that is the reason the rituals were conducted. Though it is meant to be a superstitious act, it reportedly rained during the wedding.
Locals said that the two men, Sakarm and Ramesh, were dressed in traditional wedding attire who were putting garlands on each other. They even completed the circles around the ceremonial fire and a proper barat was also seen. People dance to the Bollywood songs and the barat passed through the main roads of the locality.
The organiser said that there was no bride. There were two grooms instead who tied the knot as a gesture to draw Indradev’s attention for good rain on Indore.
He added that in today’s world people have adopted the western culture and same sex marriages and live in relationships is now common. This gave him the idea of performing a marriage between two men as a gesture to please the gods for rainfall.
However, post the rituals, the two men returned to their wives.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Uma Bharati had earlier given a statement on the drought situation of the state. She said that her ministry has proposed to irrigate 1,71,030 hectares and 68,007 hectares of land in areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
