Periods are still a societal taboo in several quarters of the society. Women at workplace still make different excuses to take a leave or two during cramps to stay comfortable at home. In the bid to become more ‘women friendly’, a media company has come up with a “First Day of Period” leave policy.
Mumbai based Culture Machine, which employs 75 female employees from July, 2017 to the sheer surprise of all the women employees. In the video below, staff of the company can be seen talking about how uncomfortable it becomes some time to work in the office and how other colleagues feel about it.
Employees feel ecstatic about the leave policy as now they just have to state the reason and take the leave; no questions asked!
“First day is obviously a not-so-comfortable day for most. It’s time we face the reality. This is not an embarrassment. This is part of life,” said Devleena S Majumder, president of the human resource at Culture Machine.
Apart from this incredible first step, the company has also floated an online petition which has already garnered more than 22,000 votes.
